Here’s the plan,
The City of Pleasanton is developing a 25-year Urban Forest Master Plan (UFMP) to provide a framework for the long-term care, preservation, and expansion of the community’s urban forest. An urban forest comprises all of the trees throughout the City that exist on streets, parks, homes, commercial properties, and other locations. The City identified a need to create a UFMP to address the requirements of the City’s Climate Action Plan 2.0 , update the City’s municipal code Tree Preservation Chapter to better protect the City’s urban forest, update the tree inventory, and provide a road map to best manage its urban forest.
We will be adding more information to this website as we work on developing the plan, so please check back soon!

What is the process?
See below for the City’s planned schedule for the UFMP as well as a list of our upcoming events. Community members and interested parties will have opportunities to provide direct input on the UFMP throughout its development. Community involvement is critical, so the UFMP reflects the values and priorities of those who live, work, and play in Pleasanton.
The City of Pleasanton conducted a survey which ran from August through October 2023, to get feedback on its current Heritage Tree Ordinance. Click this link to download the survey results. A second community survey was conducted from February 1, 2024 to March 26, 2023 to gather additional feedback from the community. Click this link to download the second community survey results.

Why trees and the urban forest?
Trees provide numerous environmental services and economic benefits to the city that help to mitigate against climate change conditions. The more healthy trees we have in the city, the more these benefits are enjoyed.
